Albany Veterans Day Parade

The rules and regulations that follow are designed for the safety and enjoyment for all. 

 

 

Check-in for All Parade Entries;

Open:     8:00 a.m.

Close: 10:45 a.m.

Parade Entry Judging:       9:00 a.m. -  10:30 a.m. 

Parade Begins:                             11:00 a.m.

 

Main Check-in for most entries will be located on Industrial Way S.W.  (Approx. one block off Queen Ave. S.W.) Follow the signs posted. All entries must check in at their designated check-in location to receive their parade packet, official number and staging location. Support vehicles will be allowed in the staging area for drop off only.

 

  • Only registered entries allowed on the parade route. All entries agree to display their 2018 entry number at all times. Posting entry numbers on the front, left and right hand side of your entry.

 

  • Participants are reminded U.S. Code: Title 4: Chapter 8 provides guidelines regarding display of the Flag of the United State of America.

 

  • By State Law and for safety purposes, all entries agree to NOT THROW OR HAND OUT FROM MOVING ENTRY Candy, Flags, Trinkets, Fliers or any other items. You may walk over and hand out items w/in 5 ft of sidewalk. If you throw candy from your entry, individual vehicle, float or while walking you will be personally liable for any injuries to anyone who runs onto the parade route.  

 

  • All entries agree to follow instructions and take directions from parade officials, parade control units, parade volunteer's, aligners and police officials concerning the operating of vehicles, maneuvering of walking units and all parade participants on the parade route.

 

  • For safety purposes any entry advocating or depicting political or social controversial issues with the intent of disrupting the parade, will be escorted off the parade route. Future admittance into the parade may also be denied. 

 

  • Parade participants are asked to keep pace with the line of march. Keep within 30 feet of the entry in front of you. A 30 second stop to perform at reviewing stands is allowed.

 

  • Vehicles used for towing purposes must have the towing capacity to tow your entry. Large rucks, Semi's towing trailers are required to have enough walking Road Guards to safely guide the entry around corners and to keep parade spectators safe. Also, safety rails are strongly advised. 

 

  • Vehicles must have current insurance and tags. All drivers must have current and valid license and insurance for the type of vehicle they are driving. No revving of engines, fast starts and/or racing along parade route.

       

  • No intoxicants of any nature are to be consumed by drivers before or while driving during the parade.

 

 

Deadline: Parade application deadline, Friday, October 25th. Parade fee, if applicable, must accompany entry application.  Late entries not will not be considered for entry into this years parade. We reserve the right to close entry into the parade earlier if the maximum number of entries has been reached prior to the deadline. 

Parade judging for all entries other than Color Guards, Marching Units and Bands begins at 9:00 a.m. All entries must be in place and manned in order to be considered for awards.

 

Judging for Color Guards, Marching Units and Bands will take place during the parade.

 

Awards are handed out after the parade on the Linn Co. Court House steps for all Color Guards, Marching Units and Bands. Ceremony to begin approx. 20 minutes after the parade ends.

 

  • We encourage all Color Guard units to stay for a Massing of the Colors at the closing ceremony on the Linn Co. Court House steps, beginning approx. 20 minutes after the end of the parade.

 

  • Equine/Animal Units: As a courtesy to all other parade participants, you are required to provide for pickup and disposal of your animal’s waste along the parade route. An additional $50.00 fee will be assessed if your entry does not provide clean up following your entry.

 

  • Any animal(s) allowed in the parade must be under the control of their riders/handlers at all times. Parade officials/Equine Judges can disallow entry in the parade due to safety concerns. Riders/handlers under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

  • All material used as decorations on floats should be flame retardant. All floats should be equipped with a UL approved fire extinguisher.

 

  • The Veterans Commemoration Association (VCA) and its parade steering committee reserve the right for safety purposes, to deny entry prior to or during the parade to any entry not adhering to the rules or following the directions of Parade Officials or Law Enforcement.

 

  • This parade is overseen by the (VCA) Veterans Commemoration Association, a 501(c)3 non-profit organization. VCA, PO Box 3241, Albany, OR  97321
